Box Condition: Original and Near Mint to Mint

Back in 1986 Matchbox in the UK were approached by the BP Oil Company to produce a set of 12 Matchbox models from the 1-75 range for a promotion in BP petrol / gas stations in the UK. The promotion went ahead but BP used Corgi models instead of Matchbox. Because of the tight delivery schedule, Matchbox had already started production of the models in their Macau factory, many thousands had been produced.

These models were from the 1-75 range and featured the 'BP' logo on each model. Rather than scrap the models the BP logos were covered over with tampo printed logos, such as the blue and white 'Ford' badge on the Ford Escort model. These models were later on general sale in the USA. Some of the pre-production models with the original BP logos did make their way onto the collectors market.

The 12 different models produced were: MB-3 Porsche Turbo, 11 Lamborghini Countach, 15 Peugeot 205, 25 Audi Quattro, 33 Renault 11, 37 Ford Escort, 39 BMW Cabriolet, 43 Mercedes-Benz 500, 48 Astra GTE, 55 Ford Sierra, 56 VW Golf GTi, 70 Ferrari 308
